The newlyweds are congratulated.
A congratulatory hug for the groom. He's a married man now!
The Groom's comments on a "The Rite of Passage":
"For those who aren't aware, there is a protocol that "Welcomes" a bride into the Corps, making her a Marine Wife. At a formal affair, Marines in Dress Blues facing each other form an arch with their crossed swords, and the Marine and new bride walk beneath that arch. The bride is then welcomed into our Brotherhood as they move under the final pair of swords.
On 22June02, at approx. 1500, a similar ceremony was conducted, but at a very informal affair. All guests were in lightweight civilian attire, including an active duty Major. Since the wedding occurred on the deck of a gazebo that spanned a mountain stream, a gate provided access to the fenced area. At the conclusion of the wedding ceremony, the couple's access was blocked at the opening by the Major who held his NCO sword that he purchased before receiving his commission."
Look out "behind" you, Mrs. Weiler!
"Welcoming the bride into our Corps, the Best Man then used a second sword to "christen" the bride across her bottom, while stating our Motto, "Semper Fidelis".
(In the interest of showing what our Brotherhood means, and the continuity of our Corps, I feel some may be interested in knowing the history of this second sword. The host who owned the mountain property was a also Marine Major who flew A-4s in Vietnam. His grandfather had been commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1937, and retired as a Lieutenant General. This sword was the grandfather's, and has still served our Corps.)"
